Abstract

The period of ignorance (Jahiliyyah) in Arabia refers to the historical era when Islamic teachings were not prevalent, and Arabs were generally uneducated and misguided due to religious intolerance. In the time of Jahiliyyah, Arab society was primarily based on tribalism and had unique polytheistic beliefs and practices in their temples. Hajj is one of the five fundamental pillars of Islam. Every year, during the Islamic month of Dhu al-Hijjah, Muslims are commanded to perform the pilgrimage to Mecca. The purpose of Hajj is spiritual devotion and piety, demonstrating unity, compassion, and humility among Muslims. Its rituals are established in the Quran and Hadith, emphasizing the importance of both earthly and heavenly connections. Islam guided Arab society away from the concepts of Jahiliyyah towards a new ideology and spirituality. Hajj became a crucial means of societal transformation. Through Hajj, Muslims acquire religious, social, and ethical education, promoting principles of humility, brotherhood, and equality. The rituals of Hajj promote both worship and societal objectives, teaching Muslims the profound significance of love, unity, and humility in relation to Allah.
