Akhtar Sherani: Some New Discoveries

Abstract

Akhtar Sherani's real name was Muhammad Dawood Khan. He belonged to the Sherani tribe of Afghanistan. His father, Hafiz Mahmood Sherani, was a religious scholar and a teacher of great stature. Akhtar Sherani is considered one of the modern poets of his time who experimented with new styles of poetry and gave it a new tone. Even the famous poets of that time could not help but acknowledge his uniqueness. Among those who appreciated his poetry, the prominent poet of that time, Faiz Ahmed Faiz, is also included. According to Faiz, "Sherani is considered one of those poets who gave a new style to the poetry of his time. He made an effort to bring the generation of that time out of the mirage of beauty and love and into the world of reality, and he was successful in this to some extent. Akhtar Sherani was undoubtedly an excellent romantic poet. He was not only unique and distinguished among his contemporaries, but also the most popular poet, and his poetry reached its peak. The color, style and harmony of his romantic poetry are different from all others. He did not follow anyone in poetry, nor was his poetry influenced by anyone's style of expression. Rather, he chose his own path of poetry and established such milestones in it that new paths were paved for his predecessors. This article examines Akhtar Sherani in a new way.
