Abstract

This article examines the jurisprudence of Islamic da?wah (propagation) toward hypocrites, drawing on Shaykh Amin Ahsan Islahi’s Tadabbur-e-Qur’an. It analyzes Qur’anic verses that describe the traits and behaviors of hypocrites and the internal barriers that prevent them from embracing the truth, offering insights for addressing modern manifestations of hypocrisy in Muslim societies. Historically, hypocrites undermined the early Muslim community from within, and similar patterns reappear today amid global challenges facing the ummah. Islahi’s exegetical approach highlights the Qur’an’s multi-layered strategy toward hypocrisy—combining exposure, indirect critique, invitation to reform, and stern warning—while revealing the psychological and moral roots of this disease and the Qur’anic method of confronting it.
